RING LAILA | 25 Min | Video
Ring Laila is a real-life inspired documentary based on the social issue of woman empowerment. It is directed by Anuradha Rana and released in 2011. It portrays the personal life of two Muslim women who fight for their independence by going against Muslim rituals. One of them becomes the first Indian Muslim woman to take up boxing, while the other becomes a coach in a school.
Anuradha Rana is an independent filmmaker and educator based in Chicago. Born and raised in India, her immigrant roots create the lens of a curious interloper at the heart of her films, where everyday characters push conventional boundaries. She is the Creative Lead for the Diverse Voices in Doc Fellowship organized by Kartemquin Films and an Associate Professor at DePaul University's School of Cinematic Arts.
